Casarones is a natural Mediterranean bathing beach located in Rubite, Granada, on the Andalusian coast. The beach stretches 330 metres in length with an average width of 12 metres and features a composition of rocks, gravel, and dark sand. It is moderately exposed to wave action dominated by easterly and north-easterly winds associated with levante winds. The beach remains lightly occupied and is classified as semi-urbanised.

Mediterranean Sea coastal waters. Water body code 610015 Calahonda - Puerto de Adra. Deep waters with muddy sand substrate. Micromareal range of 0–2 metres. Dominant currents flow eastward, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime dominated by easterly and north-easterly winds.

Location

Rubite, Granada Province, Andalucía, Spain. Access is by car. Located on the Granada coastline near the port of Adra.

1 June to 30 September

Water Quality

Bathing water classification: Excellent for all four monitoring seasons (2013–2016). Low-duration microbiological contamination risk with deterministic methodology according to UNE 150008 standard. Diffuse pollution sources include land use, built surfaces, and agricultural areas. Point pollution source identified: urban discharge from Castillo de Baños.

Risks

Low risk of contamination from short-duration microbiological events (24 hours). Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgal proliferation. Urban sewage discharge from Castillo de Baños and runoff from Rambla del Trigo watercourse present potential contamination pathways.
