Costa Tranquila is a bathing beach located in Pulpí, Almería, in the Andalusian coastal region along the Mediterranean Sea. The beach is 220 metres long with a mean width of 20 metres and features golden sand composition with calm bathing conditions. It is moderately exposed to wave action, with a micromareal tidal range. The beach is classified as naturally occurring Mediterranean coastal water with deep sandy substrates and is situated within a protected area designated as a Site of Community Importance (LIC).

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body, naturally occurring, deep sandy substrates with gravels and rocks. Micromareal tidal range of 0–2 metres. Currents dominantly flow eastward, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime is dominated by winds from the east and east-northeast (Levante wind). Annual precipitation ranges from 400–600 millimetres with a torrentiality index of 50–75 percent.

Location

The beach is located in Pulpí, Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot with easy pedestrian access or by vehicle. The nearest sport port is at Aguilas, 8 kilometres away.

Facilities

Red Cross station available. Lifeguard equipment and surveillance in place. Toilets, showers, waste bins, and cleaning service provided. Pedestrian walkways present. Disabled access available. Signage and hazard warning signs installed. Mooring zone available. Water sports rentals not available. No yacht club or scuba diving zone.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2013–2016: Excellent for all seasons monitored. Contamination risk is classified as low and microbiological in nature, lasting up to 24 hours. Identified point pollution source: EDAR S. Juan de Terreros (AL600), an urban wastewater treatment plant discharging 165,265 cubic metres annually. Diffuse pollution sources include land use, built surfaces, and altered areas in the zone of influence.

Jellyfish: low. Phytoplankton: low. Macroalgae: medium. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk present from wastewater discharge.
