Playa del Pla de la Torre is a maritime bathing zone located in the municipality of Almassora, in the province of Castellón, Valencia region. The beach has an irregular open configuration with perpendicular breakwaters for defence structures and no promenade. It features a sandy composition of semi-natural origin, with a shoreline length of 2034 metres and average width of 69.1 metres.

Location

Almassora, province of Castellón, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bounded to the north by Benafelí beach and to the south by the municipality of Burriana. No parking facility is available.

Facilities

Lifeguards (rescue and first aid service). Free public toilets and paid toilets at beach bars. Foot rinsing showers. Beach bar/chiringuito. Buoys and signalling. No accessible point service. No disabled access. No parking.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent for the 2020–2023 monitoring seasons. Monitoring point Ermita San Juan (code ES52200009M12009B1) has been active since 1999. Management is governed by Royal Decree 1341/2007 transposing Directive 2006/7/CE. Weekly inspections during the bathing season assess visual inspection parameters and beach maintenance.

Risks

Two agricultural discharge points identified: Acequia de la Torre (medium risk, intermittent discharge) and Acequia 70 m south (low risk, seasonal discharge). Short-duration contamination potential from rainfall (low frequency, mild effect), urban sanitation (low frequency, mild effect), and coastal discharges (low frequency, mild effect). Low risk from rivers/canals, industrial installations, port installations, and diffuse pollution. Phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon in low-renewal bathing zones but no cyanobacteria episodes have been detected on the Valencian coast.
