Platja del Morro del Vedell is a small sheltered cove located behind the Marina de Palamós sports port in the municipality of Palamós, Girona, Catalonia. The beach is protected at its eastern end by a small artificial breakwater extending to rocky islets known as Esculls d'en Roca. The adjoining Cala dels Pots features a very rocky beach section. The beach experiences high summer occupancy and is used by diving centres for beginner courses.

Water

Mediterranean Sea coastal beach embedded in a semi-urban setting. Average width 22 metres, length 40 metres. Beach sediment is very coarse sand with median grain size (D50) of 1.33 mm. Water entry gradient is gentle. The water body belongs to water mass C14 (Begur-Blanes), classified as deep rocky type with low continental influence. Average salinity ranges from 37.7 to 38.2 psu. Water temperatures: June 18.7°C, July 21.9°C, August 24.3°C, September 22°C. Predominant sea state is calm. Significant wave height 0.87 m with average period 5.55 seconds and most frequent direction NNE. The beach does not receive input from any natural water courses, either continuous or intermittent.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring is conducted fortnightly from June to September by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) in accordance with Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological quality is assessed through analysis of faecal contamination indicators: Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. Quality classifications are expressed as Excellent, Good (suitable for bathing) and Insufficient (unsuitable for bathing) based on four-year analytical data. Temporal classifications may differ from final annual classifications.
