Platja del Rec del Molí is a semi-natural beach located at the edge of L'Escala municipality in Alt Empordà, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is encased between a rocky area to the north and the mouth of the Rec del Molí stream to the south. It has a medium summer occupation level and faces the Mediterranean Sea with a north-eastern orientation.

Mediterranean Sea coastal water body. Average width 44 m, length 377 m, surface area 17,902 m². Medium-grain sand sediment (D50 = 0.47 mm). Very steep water entry slope. Coastline evolution: -1.07 m per year. Hydrological basin: Rieres de Montgrí-Empúries (139 km²). Water mass C9 (rocky, deep, moderately influenced by continental conditions). Low hydrological velocity response index. Permanent freshwater input from Rec del Molí stream at the southern end. Mean salinity range 30.0–37.8 psu. Water temperature: June 20.2 °C, July 22.8 °C, August 22.7 °C, September 21.6 °C. Predominant wind direction: east, weak intensity. Predominant sea state: flat. Significant wave height 0.61 m, mean period 5.82 seconds, most frequent direction north.

Location

L'Escala municipality, Alt Empordà comarca, Girona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is situated at the periphery of the L'Escala urban core.

June to September.

Water Quality

Water quality monitored biweekly during bathing season (June to September) by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological quality assessed via Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci indicators. Quality classifications: Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Poor. Annual classification determined through statistical analysis of four bathing seasons' monitoring data. Results published on PlatgesCat application and communicated to municipal authorities.

Risks

Temporary water quality impairment possible during rainfall episodes or occasional wastewater treatment incidents. Phytoplankton proliferations monitored since 2000; generally harmless colouration but monitored for potential risks.
