Playa El Mojón is a bathing beach located in Pilar de la Horadada, Alicante, in the Valencian Community of Spain. The beach has an irregular open configuration with a rigid seafront promenade and no coastal defense structures. It stretches 280.4 meters along the high-water line with an average width of 22.3 meters. The beach is composed of rocks and sand, situated on a low-accumulation coastline with currents flowing from south to north.

Water

Maritime bathing zone in the Segura Hydrographic Demarcation. Coastal water body classified as category 6 typology with good water body status. Micromareal tidal range. Currents flow from south to north. Annual precipitation in the influence zone is 246 mm, with April being the wettest month and July the driest.

Location

Pilar de la Horadada, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bordered to the north by Playa de Higuericas and to the south by the beaches of Murcia. Parking is available. Access and disabled person access are provided.

Facilities

Lifeguards (rescue and first aid service). Foot washing stations. Buoyage marking system. Accessible parking. Accessible accesses for disabled persons. No accessible point service, bar, or public toilets. Low bather density during bathing season.

Season

1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excelente (Excellent) for the monitoring point Calle de la Rosa (PM1), established in 1993. Weekly inspections during bathing season assess visual inspection parameters, water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness. No direct discharge points to the coastline affect water quality. The wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) serving the municipality has a design capacity of 18,500 m³/day with tertiary treatment plus ultraviolet disinfection.

Risks

Potential short-term contamination risks from rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharge all assessed as low frequency with mild effect. Rivers/canals, industrial installations, port facilities, and diffuse contamination all assessed as low frequency with mild effect. No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected in the region. Jellyfish and macroalgae proliferation are natural phenomena associated with coastal geomorphology and climatic conditions.
