Playazo is a natural coastal bathing beach located in Nerja, Málaga, in the Mediterranean Sea. The beach stretches for 1,680 meters with an average width of 30 meters and features dark sand. Conditions are characterized by moderate wave exposure and moderate bathing conditions. The beach is semiurban with medium occupancy and easy pedestrian access as well as vehicle access.

Water

Mediterranean Sea coastal waters. Deep waters with muddy-sand substrate. Micromareal range of 0–2 meters. Dominant currents flow toward the northeast. Dominant wave regime from the east and east-southeast associated with Levante wind. Moderate wave exposure.

Location

Nerja, Málaga, Andalucía, Spain. Easy access on foot and by vehicle.

Facilities

Toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, and nautical equipment rental available. No lifeguards, no signage, no disabled access, no red cross station, no navigation zone. Boardwalks present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for the 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 seasons. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk identified at low level, determined using UNE 150008 methodology. Identified diffuse pollution sources include land use and agricultural surfaces in the zone of influence. Identified point pollution source: Torrecilla pumping station with treated urban water discharge.

Risks

Low risk of jellyfish blooms, phytoplankton proliferation, and macroalgae proliferation. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk at low level.
