Playa San Felipe is a coastal bathing area located in Santa María de Guía municipality on Gran Canaria island in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 200 metres long and 20 metres wide with dark sand and boulder substrate. It is exposed to strong wave action and is used for water sports including surfing and windsurfing. The beach has pedestrian access and a promenade, with lifeguards and first aid services on site.

Coastal water body. Water depth ranges from 0 to 5 metres. Exposed to strong wave action with tidal range of 1–3 metres. Substrate consists of dark sand and boulders. The water mass is classified as ES70GCTI1 - Northwest Coastal, natural shallow coastal water.

Location

San Felipe, Santa María de Guía municipality, Gran Canaria, Las Palmas province, Canary Islands, Spain. The beach has a promenade and pedestrian access. No vehicle access or parking available.

Lifeguards present. First aid services available. Bars available. Litter bins provided. No public water fountain. No showers. No foot-washing facilities. No changing rooms. No disabled access. No parking. No telephone. No public address system. No umbrella, awning, or sun lounger rental.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci monitoring over four years according to RD 1341/2007. The coastal water mass ES70GCTI1 is in 'good' ecological state (biological and physicochemical) with overall 'good or better' status. Monitoring conducted during swimming season from 1 June to 30 September 2021.

Risks

Occasional short-duration pollution episodes may occur from stormwater runoff and raw or treated wastewater discharge. Four identified point sources: two bars (EBAR Paseo San Felipe and EBAR El Gallego), a submarine outfall (Emisario submarino San Felipe), and a wastewater treatment plant (EDAR San Felipe). Two watercourses (Barranco de San Felipe and Barranco de Moya) may contribute contaminants. Cyanobacteria proliferation episodes recorded in 2004, 2010, and intensively in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
