Playa San Lorenzo is a 50-metre-long coastal bathing beach in Moya, Gran Canaria, located in the northwest coastal waters. The beach has a rocky substrate and is exposed to strong waves with a tidal range of 1–3 metres. The bathing season runs from 1 June to 30 September. The water body is classified as a natural shallow coastal water mass in good ecological status.

Coastal seawater body. Length 50 metres, width 35 metres. Rocky substrate. Strong wave exposure. Wave regime characterised by strong waves. Tidal range 1–3 metres. Classified as ES70GCTI1 – Northwest Coastal/natural shallow coastal water.

Playa San Lorenzo (Charco San Lorenzo) is located in Moya municipality, Las Palmas province, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. Parking is available and is in good condition. Pedestrian access is good. Road access is good.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on evaluation of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci indicators collected over the last four years according to RD 1341/2007. No previous contamination episodes are recorded.

Risks

Nine potential point source pollution sources identified: construction wastewater discharge in Los Tableros; El Roque wastewater treatment plant; auxiliary emergency overflow tanks; treated wastewater discharge in Barranco Salado; private pool drainage; Barranquera emergency overflow tanks; El Pagador treatment plant outfall; Altillo emergency overflow tank. Diffuse contamination sources: none identified. Short-duration contamination episodes expected: stormwater runoff from heavy rainfall carrying contaminants; raw or treated urban wastewater from pipe breaks, sewage network failures, overflows, or emergency discharges; saline water discharge from pool drainage and filter cleaning. Cyanobacteria proliferation episodes of Trichodesmium recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
