Playa Los Charcones is a coastal bathing beach located in Bañaderos, Arucas municipality, Gran Canaria, Spain. The beach extends 325 meters in length with a width of 15 meters and features a substrate of golden sand, boulders, and gravel. It is exposed to strong wave conditions with a tidal range of 1–3 meters. The official bathing season runs from June 1 to September 30.

Coastal water body (tipología: costera natural) in the Northwest Coastal water mass ES70GCTI1. Water depth ranges from 0 to –1 meter. The water mass is classified as being in good ecological status (both biological and physical-chemical). Strong wave regime and exposed to heavy waves.

Location

Bañaderos locality, Arucas municipality, Las Palmas province, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian and vehicular access are both good. Parking is available but in regular condition. A waterfront promenade is present.

No public water fountain, no drinking water, no showers, no foot washing facilities, no changing rooms, no umbrella rental, no canopy rental, no sun lounger rental.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on four years of analytical results for faecal contamination indicators: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci, evaluated according to RD 1341/2007. The coastal water mass ES70GCTI1 (Northwest Coastal) is in good or better overall state according to the Gran Canaria Hydrological Plan.

Risks

Five point pollution sources identified: Bañaderos wastewater treatment plant (EDAR), submarine outfall from EDAR, small wastewater treatment station (EBAR) in Quintanilla, septic tank in Quintanilla, and wastewater treatment plant (EDAS) operated by the Pozo Los Lentiscos irrigation community, plus brine discharges from EDAS. Potential contamination from rainfall runoff via Bocabarranco ravine. Occasional episodes of cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) documented in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish or sea urchins. No risk from macroalgae.
