Pontile Al Cor

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Pontile al Cor is an artificially created beach near the Fishermen's Port in the northern part of Lake Garda, established around 2000 using inert gravel material. The beach is approximately 750 metres long and divided into alternating sectors for swimming and windsurfing. A paved cycle and pedestal path runs parallel to the shoreline, bordered by landscaped grass strips and private property fences. The lake bottom slopes progressively southward, reaching 20 metres depth within tens of metres from the shore and exceeding 50 metres shortly beyond.

Water

Lake Garda, the largest lake on the southern Alpine slope. The lake is 51.6 kilometres long with a maximum depth of 346 metres and a surface area of 369.98 square kilometres. At this bathing location, the lakebed descends steeply from the shoreline, reaching 20 metres within tens of metres and 50 metres shortly beyond. Surface water temperature averages approximately 12 degrees Celsius.

Location

Located in the municipality of Nago-Torbole in the Trentino Alto Adige region, province of Trento, near the Fishermen's Port at the al Cor locality. The beach area extends for approximately 1.6 kilometres.

Facilities

Toilet facilities are available on the beach. Numerous hospitality services including bars and restaurants are present. Camping facilities are nearby. Animals are prohibited by local ordinance.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is Excellent for the years 2016–2019. Average total phosphorus concentration in the 2014–2018 five-year period was 16 micrograms per litre. Nitrate concentrations are well below vulnerability thresholds. Wastewater is treated biologically at the Linfano treatment plant with nutrient removal systems and chemical phosphorus abatement, with biological denitrification implementation in progress. Treated water is discharged via dedicated pipeline into the Sarca River.

Risks

During intense weather events, the Sarca River transports significant quantities of timber and other materials to the lake mouth, which can occasionally affect both navigation and bathing. No causes of short-duration pollution events or anomalous situations were identified in the last four years.
