Poseidonas is a sandy natural beach on a rocky substrate with a short coastline covered entirely by beachrock formations. The beach is 255 meters long with an average water depth of 0.9 meters and a maximum depth of 2 meters. The monitoring point is located at the center of the beach where the largest concentration of swimmers occurs. The beach is situated within the Natura 2000 SPA network (code CY3000005, Agia Thekla–Liopetri).

Water

Coastal sea area (Agia Napa water body, code CY_21-C3). Beach length: 255 meters. Average water depth: 0.9 meters. Maximum water depth: 2 meters. The seabed is covered entirely by beachrock formations with no significant vegetation. The beach belongs to major hydrological basin 7, with mean annual rainfall of 350 mm in the watershed.

Location

Poseidonas is located in the Famagusta district, Sotiras community, in Cyprus. It is part of the Agia Napa water body area, with coordinates 34°58'40.8"N 33°55'50.1"E. The beach is situated along the Larnaca–Agia Napa road, with residential development inland and a dirt path running along the shore.

Facilities

Toilets, changing rooms, and a small storage facility are available.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted 2004–2007 showed nitrate concentrations below 2 mg/l and chlorophyll-a below 2 μg/l at monitoring station CY_3_M652_7 within the bathing area. No eutrophication was detected during this monitoring period. Possible pollution sources include agricultural runoff, septic systems from vacation home complexes, passing and moored recreational vessels, and marine sports from the adjacent Agia Thekla beach. A fish farm is located to the southwest. The Liopetriou river discharges approximately 3 km to the west.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae (Cladophora spp) and phytoplankton growth. Small risk of short-term pollution from passing and moored vessels and malfunctioning sewage systems of coastal developments. One short-term pollution incident was recorded on 15 July 2009 affecting the adjacent Agia Thekla beach.
