Portel municipality. Monitoring point coordinates: Longitude -7.862189; Latitude 38.313796 (ETRS89 coordinate system).

Season

7 June to 14 September 2025. Weekly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: New (without classification). Bathing water is not subject to any negative influence that affects its microbiological quality. Short-term pollution events lasting 72 hours or less are unlikely or low risk. In 2024, bathing was advised against or prohibited for 33 days due to precautionary measures related to works. Episodes of pollution that could impair water quality are not expected.

Risks

Potential for cyanobacterial blooms is likely. Potential for phytoplankton proliferation is likely. Macroalgae proliferation is unlikely. Visual in situ inspection and laboratory monitoring of chlorophyll-a are conducted with communication to the Alentejo Regional Health Delegate.
