Praia Do Lago

Portugal Lake 1 - Excellent

Praia do Lago is a sandy beach located in the Albufeira de Alqueva reservoir in Moura municipality. During the bathing season, the site experiences average rainfall of 14 mm, average air temperature of 22.7 °C, predominantly easterly to southeasterly winds, and approximately 10 hours of daily sunshine. The beach has a waterfront length of 440 metres.

Moura municipality. Monitoring point coordinates: Longitude -7.48673, Latitude 38.201883 (ETRS89 coordinate system).

Season

31 May to 14 September 2025. Sampling frequency: monthly.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified in 2024 according to Decreto-Lei nº 135/09. Bathing water is not subject to any negative influence that affects its microbiological quality. Short-term pollution (less than 72 hours) is unlikely or presents low risk. Bathing was advised against or prohibited on 17 days during the 2024 bathing season, primarily as a precautionary measure due to works.

Risks

Cyanobacteria have a likely potential for proliferation. Phytoplankton has a likely potential for proliferation. Macroalgae have an unlikely potential for proliferation. A visual inspection and laboratory monitoring system for chlorophyll-a is in place, with communication to the Alentejo Regional Health Delegate.
