The Alqueva Reservoir bathing area in Villanueva del Fresno is located 15 km northwest of the town in Extremadura, Spain. It is an artificial lake formed by a concrete double-curvature arch dam 96 meters high, constructed in 2002. The bathing zone features a beach composed of medium and small stones and gravel, with a bed of small stones and fine sand. The surrounding landscape is characterized by Mediterranean forest with extensive oak groves, cork oaks, and diverse flora including orchids and wild roses. The area supports significant wildlife including black storks, golden eagles, fish eagles, and thousands of wintering cranes.
