Punta Moneglia is a bathing area on the Ligurian coast characterized by rocky terrain and cliffs. The coastline is jagged and predominantly rocky, with difficult land access as the connecting road between Riva Trigoso and Moneglia runs through a tunnel. The area experiences notable tourist impact primarily during summer months, largely from seaborne visitors.

Coastal water body. The water mass is part of the Moneglia – Levanto body, categorized as coastal waters with mountainous relief and low stability. The area extends 2.065 square kilometres.

Location

Moneglia, Province of Genoa, Liguria region. The bathing area is accessible via the road connecting Riva Trigoso and Moneglia, which passes through a tunnel.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal treatment plants, pipelines, or Imhoff tanks are present. River mouth discharge is identified as a source of impact on bathing water. No specific monitoring measures are currently activated.

Risks

Cyanobacterial blooms are not characteristic of the Ligurian Sea due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the past four years.
