Østervang Sjællands Odde is a bathing spot located on a stony beach facing Sejerø Bay on Sjællands Odde. The beach is approximately 150 meters long with a stony area about 13 meters wide. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from 2017–2021.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water) in Sejerø Bay. At the sampling point, approximately 8 meters to reach 0.5 meters depth, 11 meters to reach 1 meter depth, and 150 meters to reach 2 meters depth. Current direction typically flows from the west.

Location

Located on Sjællands Odde facing Sejerø Bay. Access via Østervangsvej, following a fence line to a small path leading down to the beach near Østervangsvej 5. No parking facilities are available.

Information signage on the beach regarding bathing water classification and description. Warning signs erected on the beach information board in case of risk of polluted bathing water.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent quality according to BEK 917 (based on 2017–2021 data). The bathing spot is occasionally subject to wastewater pollution, most recently in late 2019. The nearest discharge outlet west of the beach is 300 meters away; the nearest outlet east is 2 kilometers away. Pollution is believed to originate from the western discharge outlet with unknown water quality. During exceedances, current direction typically comes from the northwest. Pollution duration varies depending on pollution extent and current, weather, and wind conditions.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria/blue-green algae is low. Risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth is moderate. Wastewater pollution occasionally occurs. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Swimming is not recommended if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen when water reaches knee level. Children should not play or swim near washed-up algae due to potential toxins and bacteria.
