The Ricklinger Kiesteiche (comprising the Großer Teich, Dreiecksteich, and Siebenmeterteich) are located in the southwest of Hannover within the landscape protection area 'Obere Leine' as part of the southern Leineaue and are officially approved for bathing. Large meadows for sunbathing line the ponds. The only disturbance source in this near-city location is the Südschnellweg road, which crosses the area. Swimming is permitted at the Ricklinger Bad as part of the Aegir open-air pool and on the eastern shore northeast of the Südschnellweg, but is not permitted south of the road.
