Risemark is a fine sand beach on the southern coast of Ærø, Denmark, measuring approximately 220 metres long and 5 metres wide. The beach is partially covered with medium and large stones, with fine sand comprising the seabed a few metres offshore. The beach is located in undisturbed surroundings facing Lillebælt, with agricultural land and grazing areas inland. A naturist area is designated west of the beach access.

Water

Lillebælt (Little Belt). The water is classified as brackish water. Current direction is variable. Water depth is less than 2 metres approximately 200 metres from shore. The beach is 220 metres long and 5 metres wide.

Location

Risemark is located on Ærø's southern coast. Access is via Søndre Kystvej, which leads to a car park adjacent to the beach. Parking is available at the beach car park, where toilet facilities, tables, and benches are provided.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs annually, with classification revision in May each year.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring of E. coli and enterococcus bacteria during the bathing season. The classification was calculated using data from 2014–2018.

Risks

Drain outlets on each side of the beach carry risk of high faecal bacterial concentrations during certain periods; bathing near these outlets is discouraged. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up at the water's edge; bathing near large accumulations is discouraged. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom. Low risk of phytoplankton bloom. Low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Glass shards and litter may occur. Sudden contamination possible from incidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewage lines.
