Rocce Nere is a beach in Sirolo in the Marche region with 800 metres of length and 10 metres of width. The beach consists of limestone gravel with a median slope of 3% on the emerged beach and 10% on the submerged beach, featuring rocky sections protected by natural submerged rock barriers. The surrounding area is covered with high Mediterranean scrubland.

Water

Coastal water body named Ancona_Numana. The beach has limestone gravel composition with emerged beach slope of 3% and submerged beach slope of 10%. Distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit) is 2 metres. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimetres.

Location

Sirolo, Ancona Province, Marche Region, Italy. The beach forms part of a regional park with scattered houses.

Water Quality

Water quality classification E. Monthly monitoring controls conducted by ARPAM in 2010 on the treatment plant showed results always compliant with authorised limits. E. coli measurements at the treatment plant ranged from below detection limit to 110 CFU/100 ml throughout 2010. Sewage network serves municipalities of Osimo, Castelfidardo, Numana, and Sirolo, with treatment at a biological activated sludge plant in Castelfidardo designed for 62,000 equivalent inhabitants, serving approximately 22,150 urban equivalent inhabitants and about 6,550 from productive activities, with seasonal fluctuations of approximately 25,300 equivalent inhabitants.

Risks

During intense rainfall events, combined sewer overflow occurs, with discharge diverted to outlets along the beach in Numana and along the Musone River and tributaries in Osimo and Castelfidardo. Phytoplankton proliferation evaluated as potential risk, though 2007–2010 showed absence of algal blooms typical of the coastline.
