Bagni Peppe is a bathing beach located in Sirolo in the Marche region, comprising a 350 m long and 35 m wide shingle beach of calcareous origin. The beach has a mean slope of 3% on the emerged part and 10% on the submerged part, with some steep sections formed by calcareous blocks protected by natural submerged rock barriers. The area is surrounded by urban settlements, tourist facilities, and Mediterranean scrub vegetation.

Water Quality

Classification: E. Water body category: C. E. coli monitoring conducted monthly by ARPAM in 2010 showed values ranging from below the determination limit to 110 CFU/100 ml, with all results compliant with authorized limits.

Risks

During heavy rainfall, wastewater network flows increase substantially, causing overflow discharges along the beach at Numana and into the Musone river. A toxic algal bloom (Ostreopsis ovata) occurred in September 2009, causing deaths of sessile benthic organisms including limpets, sea urchins, and mussels.
