A bathing beach located north of the camping area in Sirolo, Marche region. The beach features limestone gravel with a median slope of 3% on the emerged beach and 10% on the submerged beach, with steep sections composed of limestone blocks protected by natural submerged rock barriers. The beach extends 1000 m in length and 40 m in width. The surrounding area consists of dense Mediterranean scrubland vegetation.

Water

Coastal marine water. The water body is designated as Ancona_Numana. Distance between mean low and high water (safe water limit) is 2 m. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 cm.

Location

Sirolo, Ancona province, Marche region. The competent authority is the Municipality of Sirolo (Piazza Municipio, 1, 60020 Sirolo, tel. 071/9330572) and the Port Authority of Ancona (Scalo Molo Nord, 60121 Ancona).

Facilities

Bar, restaurants, toilets, and beach establishments. Animals are not permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. Wastewater treatment from the municipalities of Osimo, Castelfidardo, Numana, and Sirolo is managed by a biological treatment plant with activated sludge located in Castelfidardo, with a capacity of 62,000 equivalent inhabitants. Monthly monitoring by ARPAM in 2010 showed Escherichia coli levels: January 110 CFU/100 ml, February 26 CFU/100 ml, March 80 CFU/100 ml, April below detection limit, May below detection limit, July 90 CFU/100 ml, August 70 CFU/10 ml, September 100 CFU/10 ml, October 65 CFU/100 ml, November below detection limit, December 10 CFU/100 ml. All results complied with authorised limits. No algal blooms were recorded in 2007–2010.

Risks

During intense rainfall events, wastewater system discharge rates increase substantially, causing wastewater overflows through discharge structures along the beach in Numana and along the Musone river and its tributaries in Osimo and Castelfidardo.
