Saint-Asile is a bathing beach in Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The beach is 200 metres long with coarse sand and a southwest orientation, featuring a semi-enclosed configuration. It is managed by the municipality of Saint-Mandrier and experiences high visitor numbers. The beach is equipped with lifeguard services and various facilities including toilets, showers, and disabled access.

Water

Coastal bathing area with a semi-enclosed configuration. Watershed basin area: 0.1 km². The water body is subject to wind-driven currents, with dominant winds from the northeast pushing pollution toward the coast and southwest winds dispersing pollution offshore.

Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer, Var department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Accessible via Boulevard de Saint-Asile and Promenade Latouche-Tréville. Parking is available. Coordinates: 43.072187, 5.907123.

Lifeguard station with 3 lifeguards. Toilets. Showers. Disabled access with beach wheelchairs for water entry. Fixed waste bins. Parking. Snack bar and restaurant. Potable water point not available. Animals not permitted.

Monitoring period: 2 July – 3 September 2022.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2021: Good. Microbiological monitoring conducted by ARS (regional health authority) and self-surveillance by a service provider. Historical classification: 2018 Excellent, 2019 Good, 2020 Good, 2021 Good. Microbiological contamination incidents recorded in September 2020 and September 2021 following storm events, resulting in beach closures. Contamination indicators monitored include Escherichia coli and faecal enterococci.

Risks

Microbiological pollution risk from sewage discharge containing organic matter, minerals, nitrogen, phosphorus, and grease. Chemical pollution risk from hydrocarbon runoff from transportation routes. Risk of chlorinated water discharge from a balneotherapy centre opened in 2018. Pollution from storm events via two major drainage outlets and the Renardière watercourse. Sewage lifting station (Marégau) risk of overflow during pump failure or heavy rainfall.
