Orøgaard Strand is a bathing beach approximately 100 meters long located on the northern side of the island of Orø, facing Salvig Bay. The beach consists of a stony sand area about 5 meters wide that extends into the water, with scattered large stones visible in the shallows. A large grass area adjoins the beach, and the surrounding area is protected marshland with a summer cottage community behind it. The water is typically brackish under normal conditions.

Water

Brackish water under normal conditions. The beach extends approximately 100 meters. The seafloor is rocky sand about 5 meters wide, with isolated large stones in the water. The water reaches 0.5 meters depth over 50 meters from shore and is 2 meters deep approximately 700 meters offshore.

Location

The beach is located on the northern side of Orø island, accessible via the town of Næsby. Access is via Enghavegårdsvej, Engvejen, and Vibestien. Parking is available at the end of Orøgaardsvej, opposite the water works and common ground. There are no toilet facilities or disabled access at the beach.

Monitoring occurs during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent based on data from 2020–2023. Monitoring is conducted during the bathing season using water samples analysed for the indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. The classification is based on the concentration of these two bacteria.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) risk is low. Risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth is low. Sudden blooms may occur after prolonged periods of warm, nutrient-rich water and are visible as water discoloration. Bathing is not recommended if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen at knee depth. Other occasional pollutants include glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills. A nearby shooting range operated by Orø Marksmen's Association has scheduled shooting days; dates are posted on an information board at the path to the beach.
