Gatteo Nord is a sandy beach bathing area in the Emilia-Romagna region extending from the perpendicular projection of Via delle Nazioni (Cesenatico/Gatteo municipal boundary) to 290 meters north of the Rubicone River mouth. The beach is 80 meters wide and protected along its entire length by a series of emergent breakwaters spaced approximately 20 meters apart, each averaging 90 meters in length. The bathing area is classified as coastal marine waters with high stability characteristics. The beach experiences erosion.

Coastal marine water body with an area of 0.420 km. The water body is part of the CD2 Central-Southern Coastal Area. No rivers or direct discharges flow into this bathing water profile.

Location

Located in the municipality of Gatteo, province of Forlì-Cesena, Emilia-Romagna region. The area is bounded by the municipal boundary with Cesenatico to the south and extends northward to 290 meters north of the Rubicone River mouth.

Facilities

Fifteen bathing establishments providing first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, structures without architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food service points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2017–2018). Escherichia coli at 90th percentile: 25 CFU/100 mL; at 95th percentile: 30 CFU/100 mL. Intestinal enterococci at 90th percentile: 17 CFU/100 mL; at 95th percentile: 20 CFU/100 mL. No direct discharge points or pollution sources are present in the bathing water area.

Risks

The Rubicone River mouth is located to the south and may potentially cause eutrophication phenomena. During July–August 2018, macroalgae proliferation of the genus Ulva occurred in the central-northern coastal section. No cyanobacterial eutrophic phenomena have been reported. Phytoplankton blooms of Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica were not recorded during 2017–2018.
