Skuldbøl Strand is a 60-meter-long beach located in the southeastern part of Ringkøbing Fjord near the summer house area of Skuldbøl Strand. The beach consists of fine sand and is 15 meters wide, with the fjord bottom also composed of fine sand and scattered small stones. The water depth increases gently, making the area very child-friendly, with most of the fjord under 2 meters deep. The beach is situated in scenic surroundings with views over the shallow fjord.

Water

Ringkøbing Fjord. The water is classified as brackish water. The beach is 60 meters long and 15 meters wide. Water depth increases gently; most of the fjord is under 2 meters deep. Current direction is variable with no primary current direction.

Location

Skuldbøl Strand is located in the southeastern part of Ringkøbing Fjord. Access is via Svinkvej, where a parking area with toilet facilities is available on the southern side of the road at the southern end of the summer house area. A small path leads from the parking area to the beach.

Season

Official bathing season is 1 June to 1 September. Routine water quality monitoring is conducted during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as poor (Ringe). Classification is based on routine monitoring of faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the bathing season. High concentrations of faecal bacteria have been detected, particularly in connection with rainfall. The pollution sources are identified as Hemmet Bæk stream outlet to the south of the beach, which carries discharge from Hemmet Treatment Plant and a combined sewer system. High concentrations are associated with heavy rainfall, which causes hydraulic problems at the treatment plant, resulting in insufficient treatment of wastewater.

Risks

Faecal bacteria pollution from Hemmet Bæk stream outlet, particularly during and up to 72 hours after heavy rainfall. Swimming is advised against in and around the stream outlet and at the beach during rainfall and for up to 72 hours after rainfall ceases. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large macroalgae accumulation. Possible contamination from recreational boats, manure tanks, and sewer lines.
