Slanchev Den is a natural resort situated in a small, sheltered eastern-facing bay with exceptionally clear seawater. The beach features a 1,400-metre-long sandy strip with a width ranging from 20 to 80 metres, backed by a natural park containing rare tree species. The seabed is shallow and sandy, sloping gently toward the shore. The bathing season extends from May through October.

Sea water body in the Black Sea Basin. Beach length 1,400 metres; width 20 to 80 metres. Shallow sandy seabed with gradual slope to shore.

Location

Located in Varna Province, northeastern Bulgaria, within the Varna Municipality in the Northeastern Black Sea Coastal Region. The resort complex includes hotel facilities and is accessible by personal and public transport.

Facilities

Five lifeguard posts; sanitary facilities; showers; changing rooms; four medical stations; accessible facilities for persons with disabilities; waste bins; dogs prohibited.

Season

May to October.

Water Quality

Water quality classifications from 2007–2021: Excellent (compliant to guide values) in 2007–2011, 2013–2014, 2015–2016, and 2021; Good in 2017–2020; Good or Sufficient in 2012 (compliant to mandatory values). Potential short-term pollution source: wastewater treatment plant Slanchev Den with a sewer system managed by Varka Water Supply and Sewerage Company. Three pumps operate at pumping station KPS 3, with two in continuous operation and one in reserve. Buildings not connected to the sewerage system are located in the vicinity.

Risks

Potential for short-term contamination from the Slanchev Den wastewater treatment plant and associated sewer network. Buildings outside the sewerage system in the vicinity and in areas without constructed sewerage systems discharge into local streams.
