Søndre Refshale Badezone is an unattended public bathing area located at the waterfront of Søndre Refshale Basin on Refshaleøen. The facility features a landing bridge approximately 6 by 1.2 metres with railings, a floating pontoon of 8 by 8 metres with railings, and two pools measuring 8 by 50 metres and 8 by 12 metres respectively, with water depths of 6 to 8 metres. The bathing area is open to the public year-round and is demarcated by floating lines and buoys.

Located at Søndre Refshale Basin on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen. Public toilets are available at Refshalevej 191, approximately 800 metres away.

Open year-round. Official monitoring season for water quality classification: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023). The bathing area was closed for 212 hours (7.2% of the time) during the 2023 bathing season (red flag status). Risk of cyanobacteria assessed as relatively low. Risk of phytoplankton growth and macroalgae assessed as relatively low.

Risks

Risk of fecal pollution from combined sewer overflows approximately 500 metres away, which are used on average 6 times per year. Heavy rainfall can result in bacterial contamination of bathing water. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur.
