Søvang is a bathing beach located on the south side of Amager, featuring a sandy bottom and a approximately 250-meter-long bathing pier. The water is classified as excellent quality based on annual statistical analysis of monitoring data from the bathing season of 1 June to 1 September. Access to the beach is provided from Søvej and Poppelvej.

Water Quality

Water is classified as excellent quality. Classification is performed annually after the bathing season ends on 1 September, based on statistical analysis of monitoring data from the current year and preceding three years. Water quality monitoring is conducted at least 10 times during the bathing season (1 June to 1 September), exceeding the minimum requirement of 4 samples per season set by the bathing water directive.

Risks

Cyanobacteria blooms can occur, typically following rainy periods with nutrient runoff followed by warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) may accumulate at the beach edge. Manual discharge of diluted wastewater from a pumping station may occur during heavy rainfall to prevent sewage system backups. Short-term pollution can result from such discharges, typically lasting no more than 3 days after heavy rainfall, with an average frequency of 0–1 times per year. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
