Ved Kongelundskroen is a bathing beach located along the southwestern part of Amager, facing Køge Bay and Kalveboderne. The beach extends approximately 700 metres and consists of a sandy area 5–20 metres wide, with a bottom composed of stone and sand. The water is classified as excellent quality. Current conditions are typically weak and variable.

Water

Coastal bathing water in Køge Bay. The beach extends approximately 700 metres and consists of a sandy area 5–20 metres wide. The bottom is composed of stone and sand. Current direction is variable with typically weak flow.

Location

Located along the southwestern part of Amager at Kongelundskroen, facing Køge Bay and Kalveboderne. Good parking facilities are available in the immediate vicinity of the beach.

Season

Official monitoring season runs from 1 June to 1 September annually.

Water Quality

Water is classified as excellent quality. Classification is performed annually after the bathing season (1 June–1 September) based on statistical analysis of bathing water samples from the current year and the three preceding years. Tårnby Municipality samples water 20 times during the bathing season, exceeding the directive minimum of 4 samples.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms can occur, typically after rainy periods followed by warm weather. Blooms may cause unclear discolored water, foam formation, and potentially dead animals. Contact with toxins can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the beach edge; bathing is not recommended near large accumulations. Seaweed can harbour disease-causing bacteria and produce toxins when decomposing. Fecal pollution risk exists from occasional combined sewer overflows during heavy rainfall from Tårnby, Hvidovre, and Copenhagen municipalities. Large numbers of waterfowl and other birds in the area are a potential source of fecal pollution. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur.
