Costa Esperia is a sandy beach with a gently sloping sandy seabed located in the municipality of Vittoria in Sicily. The beach is backed by dune ridges with typical Mediterranean scrub vegetation in a dry climate. The 30-metre-wide beach is lightly frequented due to limited access routes. The area is an unequipped, free-access coastal stretch used exclusively for swimming.

Marine waters in the Strait of Sicily (Canale di Sicilia). The beach is 30 metres wide with a shallow, sandy seabed that slopes gradually. The mapped area extends for 1.00 kilometre.

Location

Municipality of Vittoria, Sicily, in the Ragusa Province. Coordinates: Y=36.9430, X=14.3937. The beach is part of coastal area N.15 extending from Capo Scalambri to Licata, and is lightly frequented due to scarcity of access routes.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is not served by sewerage. Potential pollution sources identified include agricultural activities and untreated urban discharges. Heavy rainfall can cause overflow of water conveyed into the bathing waters.

Risks

Heavy precipitation can cause overflow of water flow into the bathing waters. Intensive greenhouse agriculture and absence of sewerage are identified as sources of short-duration pollution. Erosive phenomena are present due to anthropogenic activities but are not appreciable for the beach width.
