Irminio Beach is a sandy beach located within the Macchia Foresta del Fiume Irminio Natural Reserve on the coast of Ragusa, Sicily. The beach features the mouth of the Irminio River with dense vegetation behind it. It has a width of 30 metres and extends for 1.6 kilometres along the coast. The area experiences a dry subtropical climate with high summer temperatures and modest winter precipitation.

Free access regulated by the protected area regulations. Easy public access. Animals are permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is subject to treated wastewater discharge from the Irminio River treatment plant. Potential pollution sources include agricultural activities and untreated urban wastewater. Storm overflow discharge and flood discharge structures are present.

Risks

Heavy rainfall can cause overflow events that discharge into the bathing water. No cyanobacterial proliferation or macroalgae/phytoplankton proliferation events have been recorded in the last four years.
