Plaia Grande is a sandy beach of notable tourist interest located in Scicli, Sicily. The beach features a shallow and gently sloping seabed and is easily accessible. It is used primarily by residents of the surrounding area and extends for 1.4 kilometres along the coast.

Coastal water body in the Channel of Sicily (Canale di Sicilia). Shallow seabed with gentle slope. Extends 1.4 kilometres along the coast.

Location

Scicli, Sicily (Ragusa Province). The beach is located along the coast between Punta Scalambri and Punta Religione. Beach width is 30 meters.

Facilities

Free and equipped coastal area. No municipal ordinances or signs prohibit animal access. Only bathing use is permitted in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is subject to a subtropical dry climate with high summer temperatures and modest winter precipitation. Potential pollution sources include agricultural activities, intense urbanization, untreated urban discharges, and white water runoff from stormwater outlets. Treated wastewater from the municipal treatment plant in Scicli is discharged to sea via submarine pipeline.

Risks

Heavy precipitation can cause overflow of stormwater discharge into bathing waters. No permanent pollution sources are present within the bathing area.
