Maiori 2 is a sandy beach located in the municipality of Maiori in the province of Salerno, Campania. The beach is characterized by sandy shoreline with tourist facilities in close proximity to the Maiori port and the mouth of the Reginna Maior River. The area features extensive sandy beach and intense urbanization. The bathing water has been classified as poor quality during the monitoring years 2020–2023.

Location

Maiori, province of Salerno, Campania. The beach is situated near the Maiori port on the western side and the Reginna Maior River mouth on the eastern side.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Poor (D.Lgs. 30.05.08 n. 116) for the monitoring years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Risks

Pollution sources identified include: the Maiori port; the Reginna Maior River mouth, which receives treated wastewater from the Tramonti municipal treatment plant; urban sewage conveyed to a settling tank at Costa d'Angolo with final discharge via submarine pipeline; and potential breaks in the submarine pipeline serving the settling tank. During summer, a river channelling pipe diverts Reginna Maior waters away from the river mouth.
