Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT (2008-2011). A wastewater treatment plant at the mouth of Torrente Castagnola on the right orographic bank discharges treated effluent through a submarine outfall (350 mm diameter) extending 1000 metres. This is the identified pollution source impacting bathing water.

Risks

The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominant oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the past four years.
