Water

Coastal sea water. The beach is 170 metres long and up to 20 metres wide. The seabed consists almost entirely of sand with small patches of seaweed. The sand bottom has a gentle slope. Current direction is predominantly west to east, typically aligned with prevailing wind direction.

Location

Located in the Nødebohuse summer house area, Halsnæs Municipality, Denmark. Access is via a staircase at Nødebovejen 156. A large car park is available at the staircase entrance.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on 16 samples from 2018–2021. Historically classified as excellent in 2001, 2003, 2016–2021. Monitoring at Nødebohuse Pump Canal outlet shows elevated levels of intestinal bacteria during heavy rainfall, but this contribution to beach water quality is considered small because water from the canal is rapidly diluted in sea water and the outlet is located 700 metres west of the beach.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms occur rarely on the north coast; contact can cause headache, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) present; decaying seaweed can release toxins and harbour disease-causing bacteria. Risk of short-term pollution is very small and cannot be predicted in advance. Occasional hazards include littered waste, broken glass, dead seals, and oil spills.
