Skansevej (Trekanten) is a sandy beach located near Hundested town in Halsnæs Municipality, Denmark. The beach is 300 metres long and 30 metres wide with a sandy bottom interspersed with seaweed forest. It is a Blue Flag designated beach with excellent water quality classification. The beach is backed by residential development and Hundested Harbour, with dunes separating the town from the shore.

Water

Sandy beach with sand bottom containing patches of seaweed forest. Current direction predominantly west to east, corresponding with dominant wind direction. Beach dimensions: 300 metres long and 30 metres wide.

Location

Located at Hundested town in Halsnæs Municipality, Denmark. Access via Skansevej. Parking available at a small car park on Skansevej and a larger car park on the harbour area adjacent to Amtsvejen.

Facilities

Lifeguard present during bathing season 10:00–17:00. Disabled access ramp and disabled toilet. Outdoor changing facilities and showers. Toilets and waste bins. Information board on lifeguard station. Blue Flag designation.

Season

Lifeguard supervision from 10:00 to 17:00 during bathing season. Monitoring period covers year-round assessment with classification based on 16 samples from the current year and preceding 1–2 years.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on 16 samples collected between 2018 and 2021. The beach is registered under the Blue Flag voluntary scheme. Historical classifications show excellent quality ratings in 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2009, 2008, and 2007. Rainwater discharge from Hundested Harbour is present but not contaminated with wastewater. Additional rainwater discharge at the northern end of the beach from a combined sewer system. Overall water quality has been good to excellent since 1991, achieving excellent classification for the past six years.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms occur rarely. Macroalgae (seaweed) risk present. Cyanobacteria can produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. Children and immunocompromised persons are particularly susceptible. Dogs can die if drinking contaminated water. Large quantities of seaweed can occur and may release toxins or protect pathogenic bacteria from UV radiation. Risk of short-term pollution is very low and cannot be predicted in advance. Other occasional pollution includes litter, broken glass, dead seals, and oil spills.
