Water depth is less than 2 meters for the first approximately 190 meters from the shore, though bathers should be aware of a deep channel located approximately 450 meters offshore. The bathing water is classified as excellent and is brackish water.

Water

Brackish water body located on Grønsund. The beach is 100 meters long and 10–15 meters wide with a sandy bottom. Water depth is less than 2 meters for approximately 190 meters from shore. Water temperature ranges from 12–23 °C during the bathing season. Water currents are variable but predominantly eastward (30% of measurements) and westward (17% of measurements).

Location

The beach is located west of Stubbekøbing on Nordfalster, accessed via Gl. Landevej which has a parking area at its end. Public bus transport is available via lines 36 and 37 to Stubbekøbing. A park with tall trees, large lawns, and a lake is situated southeast of the beach, with a footpath leading east from the beach toward Stubbekøbing harbor and town. Stubbekøbing Camping is located south of the beach.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as excellent according to regulation number 939 of 18 September 2012, based on data from 2011–2014. Minor short-term fecal contamination has been observed from samples taken at the monitoring station, attributed to rain-dependent discharges along the shore that can release contaminated water during heavy rainfall. Sudden contamination may also occur from incidents involving recreational boats, manure tanks, and sewage pipes.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, particularly during prolonged warm and sunny weather with easterly winds. Cyanobacteria produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea upon contact; vulnerable populations include immunocompromised persons and children. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation at the shoreline, which can harbor bacteria and extend their survival time. Glass fragments, litter, oil spills, and other chemical contamination can occasionally occur. Short-term fecal contamination from rain-dependent discharges.
