Tamargueira is a bathing beach located north of the mouth of the Mondego River on the exposed Atlantic Mesotidal Coast. It is situated in water mass CWB-I-3 and is bathed by an energetic and abrasive ocean. The beach is classified as type I, with a consolidated urban nucleus surrounding it and high human occupation during the summer season due to strong demand.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 under Decreto-Lei 135/09 and Decreto-Lei 113/2012. No short-term pollution episodes occurred during the bathing season. Zero days of bathing advisories or prohibitions due to short-term pollution in 2024.

Risks

Diffuse sources of fecal contamination from surface waters flowing from the north, solid waste from beach activities, marine litter, bird colonies, and high number of users. Macroalgae proliferation is very likely. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely. Phytoplankton proliferation is likely.
