Torrente Mariconda (Mariconda Stream), a sandy coastal water body with breakwater cliff protection along an urbanized shoreline.

Location

Salerno, Campania region. The bathing area extends along the urban coastline with two identified pollution sources: the S5 'Mercatello' pumping station on the western side (coordinates 40.650984°N, 14.810993°E) and the Marina d'Arechi port area on the eastern side.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020–2023). Monitoring authority: Regione Campania, Direzione Generale per la Tutela della Salute ed il Coordinamento del Sistema Sanitario Regionale. Pollution sources include a municipal wastewater treatment plant in the industrial zone with discharge into the Picentino River, and emergency overflow outlets from the entire sewage network along the coastline during heavy rainfall.

Emergency overflow discharge from the sewage network into Torrente Mariconda and Fiume Picentino during heavy rainfall. Pumping station overflow at the Mercatello facility on the western side.
