Torrette - Sottopasso Rio Marsigliano is a bathing beach in Fano, Marche, in the Adriatic coastal area. The beach features fine quartz-feldspar and limestone sand with a gentle slope of 1–3% on both emerged and submerged sections, protected by artificial rock barriers. The average beach width is 42 metres. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Water

Adriatic Sea coastal waters (Fano_Senigallia water body). Distance between low and high tide water levels is 80 metres. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 cm.

Location

Located in Fano, Pesaro Urbino province, Marche region. Parking for people with disabilities is available, with an accessible path from parking to beach.

Facilities

Disabled parking and accessible path to sea; disabled toilet facilities; first aid and lifesaving service; sports facilities (beach volleyball, bowls); children's play area; refreshment point. Two concession areas, two free areas, and one boat storage area with launch corridor.

Water Quality

Classification E. Wastewater from Fano's sewage network is treated by three wastewater treatment plants: Ponte Metauro (12,000 cubic metres daily), Bellocchi (2,000 cubic metres daily), and Ponte Sasso (1,000–4,000 cubic metres daily depending on season). Storm water overflows are discharged through multiple outlets. Brief microbiological parameter increases have been recorded. Non-toxic microalgae blooms (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in the 2008 and 2009 bathing seasons, causing abnormal water discolouration.

Risks

The Fosso dell'Ingegnere overflow outlet (diameter 315 mm) discharges onto the sandy free beach, with seasonal variations: summer discharge to soil, winter discharge to Rio Marsigliano. Rio Marsigliano collects stormwater and treated effluent from San Costanzo wastewater treatment plant.
