Torrette Largo Bellariva Scaletta Mare is a bathing beach in Fano, Marche region, with fine quartz and feldspathic sand of calcareous origin. The beach has a gentle slope of 1–3% and is protected by artificial reefs. The water depth at safe swimming limits averages 80 metres from shore, with tidal range of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area is urbanised with a railway line passing through it.

Coastal marine water body designated Fano_Senigallia. Area extends 0.44391 square units. Beach sand is fine-grained quartz and feldspathic-calcareous composition with median slope of 1–3%. Mean to high water distance at safe swimming limits: 80 metres. Astronomical tide range: 30–50 centimetres.

Location

Located in Fano, province of Pesaro Urbino, Marche region. The beach comprises 2 concession areas and 1 free area with average width of 46 metres. Reserved disabled parking is available with accessible pathway from parking to beach and accessible route to the sea.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The Fano municipal sewer network covers approximately 260 kilometres serving all urbanised municipal territory. Three active sludge treatment plants serve the area: Ponte Metauro (main facility, serving approximately 12,000 cubic metres of wastewater daily), Bellocchi (approximately 2,000 cubic metres daily), and Ponte Sasso (1,000–1,500 cubic metres in winter, 3,000–4,000 cubic metres in summer). Discharge outlets to the coastal zone: Ponte Metauro 7, Ponte Sasso 10, Bellocchi 0. Ponte Metauro plant (serving over 50,000 population equivalents) has undergone 24 annual monitoring checks with all results compliant with legal limits.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgal bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred during 2008 and 2009 bathing seasons, causing anomalous water discolouration. During heavy rainfall, combined sewer overflows discharge from multiple outlets along the coastal zone.
