Torrette - Bagni Lori is a bathing water located in Fano, in the Marche region. The beach has fine quartz-feldspar and calcareous siliceous sand with a medium slope of 1–3%. It is protected by submerged and artificial rock formations. The average water depth to safe water limits is 80 metres, with astronomical tide range of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Location

Fano, Pesaro Urbino province, Marche region. The beach extends 56 metres in average width and comprises two concessioned areas, two free areas, and one boat storage area with launch corridor. Accessible parking for disabled visitors is available, with an accessible path from parking to beach and sea access.

Facilities

Lifeguards and first aid service, toilets, disabled access (accessible parking, accessible path to beach, disabled sanitary facilities, accessible sea access), sports facilities (bocce, volleyball, five-a-side football), children's play area, refreshment point. Animals are not permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The Fano municipal sewerage network extends approximately 260 kilometres and serves urbanised territory. Three wastewater treatment plants operate: Ponte Metauro (primary, serving circa 12,000 cubic metres daily), Bellocchi (circa 2,000 cubic metres daily), and Ponte Sasso (1,000–1,500 cubic metres daily in winter, 3,000–4,000 in summer). The Ponte Metauro plant serves >50,000 population equivalents and undergoes 24 annual monitoring controls, all compliant with legal limits. During intense rainfall, overflow discharges occur: 7 dischargers from Ponte Metauro and 10 from Ponte Sasso affect the coastal section.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in 2008 and 2009, causing anomalous water discolouration. Overflow discharges from sewerage system during heavy rainfall.
