Trave is a pebble beach protected by natural submerged limestone cliffs in Ancona, Marche region. The beach extends 1000 m in length and 10 m in width, with a steep profile where the distance between medium-low and high water is 5 m. The surrounding area is characterized by low Mediterranean scrub vegetation. The astronomical tide ranges from 30 to 50 cm.

Location

Ancona, Marche region, Italy. The beach is located along the coast between the Esino and Musone watercourses.

Water Quality

Water quality classification E. Wastewater treatment is managed by the Zipa treatment plant located at via E. Mattei 33, Ancona, serving approximately 90,565 residents from urban areas and 3,290 equivalent inhabitants from productive activities. The plant has a capacity of 25,000 cubic metres per day or 100,000 equivalent inhabitants. Escherichia coli measurements at the treatment plant in 2010 ranged from below detection limits to 3,100 CFU/100 ml, with all results compliant with authorized AIA limits.

Risks

Toxic algal bloom of Ostreopsis ovata occurred in September 2008, causing death of sessile benthic organisms (limpets, sea urchins, mussels) with no effects on people. During overflow events when thresholds are exceeded, wastewater flows through various discharge points along the beach.
