Valverde Sud is a sandy beach bathing area in Cesenatico, Emilia-Romagna, extending from 300 metres south of Via A. Mantegna to the perpendicular extension of Piazza E. Torricelli. The beach is protected along its entire length by a series of parallel emerged breakwaters, averaging 90 metres in length and spaced approximately 20 metres apart. The beach has an average width of 80 metres and experiences erosion with a slight advancement of the shoreline.

Coastal marine waters classified as an alluvial plain with high stability. No rivers or watercourses discharge into the bathing waters, and there are no direct sea discharges in the area.

Location

Cesenatico, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The bathing area extends from 300 metres south of the perpendicular extension of Via A. Mantegna to the perpendicular extension of Piazza E. Torricelli. Coordinates: centre 12.43188842°E, 44.17947286°N. The area covers 0.616 km.

Facilities

Ten bathing establishments with first aid services, sanitary facilities including accessible facilities for disabled persons, hot showers, absence of architectural barriers, sports facilities, and refreshment points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 30 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 37 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 12 CFU/100 ml; intestinal enterococci (95th percentile): 13 CFU/100 ml. No short-duration pollution events were recorded during the bathing seasons from 2015 to 2018. No anomalous situations occurred during the 2015–2018 bathing seasons.

Risks

Macroalgae proliferation (genus Ulva) occurred during July–August 2018 in the central northern coastal section, causing modifications to beach usability during biomass accumulation. No toxic effects from phytoplankton were recorded. Cyanobacterial proliferation has never been reported.
