Villa Marina is a sandy beach in Cesenatico, Emilia-Romagna, extending from Via E. Torricelli to Via delle Nazioni. The beach is 80 metres wide and protected by a series of parallel submerged breakwaters spaced approximately 20 metres apart and averaging 90 metres in length. The beach experiences erosion with a slightly advancing shoreline. High bather attendance is recorded at this coastal marine water body.

Coastal marine water body classified as flat alluvial waters with high stability. Area covers 0.435 km. Protected by parallel submerged breakwaters averaging 90 metres in length, spaced approximately 20 metres apart.

Location

Cesenatico, Forlì-Cesena province, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. The beach extends from the perpendicular extension to the sea of Via E. Torricelli to the perpendicular extension of Via delle Nazioni (Cesenatico/Gatteo municipal border). Sixteen bathing establishments are present with parking and services.

Facilities

Sixteen bathing establishments providing first aid services, toilets accessible to persons with disabilities, hot showers, and absence of architectural barriers. Sports facilities and refreshment points available. Access for animals is regulated by Regional Beach Ordinance and municipal ordinances.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli at 90th percentile: 32 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 41 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci at 90th percentile: 21 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 25 CFU/100 ml. No short-duration pollution events recorded during bathing seasons 2015–2018. No anomalous situations occurred during 2015–2018 bathing seasons.

Risks

Presence of stormwater discharge (outfall 28) conveying rainwater to sea through a submerged pipe beyond breakwaters, with potential for eutrophication. Macroalgae proliferation of genus Ulva occurred in July–August 2018 in the central-northern coastal section, modifying recreational use during biomass accumulation. No cyanobacterial blooms or phytoplankton events reported in 2015–2018.
