Werratalsee Ostufer is a gravel extraction lake formed through decades of gravel mining until 2009, located in the Werra valley between Eschwege and Meinhard-Schwebda. The lake covers 117 hectares with a maximum depth of 8.5 metres and mean depth of 4.9 metres. It serves multiple recreational purposes including swimming, sailing, rowing, and surfing, with the surrounding floodplain landscape offering opportunities for walks. The eastern shore bathing area features a large sandy beach approximately 100 metres long with a 10-metre-wide sand strip adjoining a 10-metre-wide grass area.
