Fosso della Paurosa is a coastal bathing water area located in Vasto, in the Abruzzo region. The sampling point is situated on a pebbly beach with a width of 20 metres. The area typically hosts approximately 30 bathers per day. The beach receives minimal infrastructure during the bathing season, with only waste collection services available.

Location

Vasto, Chieti Province, Abruzzo region. The bathing area is part of the Riccio-Vasto water body.

Facilities

Waste collection service during bathing season. Animal access is regulated by municipal ordinance no. 37 of 20 May 2022.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The water body is subject to discharge from a wastewater treatment plant serving the prison facility located at Torre Sinello, which discharges into Fosso della Paurosa. Marine waters in the Abruzzo area have not exhibited characteristic cyanobacterial blooms. Rare algal blooms occur in summer months, with past instances of dinoflagellate blooms showing scarce or absent toxic species. No infrastructure changes or significant construction work are present in the bathing area.

Risks

Wastewater discharge from the prison treatment plant at Torre Sinello enters Fosso della Paurosa. Algal blooms may occasionally occur in summer, though toxic species have been absent or scarce in past events.
