Capolungo Beach is a bathing area in Genoa, Liguria, characterised by a predominantly pebbly beach surrounded by rocks and artificial structures. The area features low cliffs overlooking residential dwellings at the Capolungo locality. Water quality has been classified as excellent during the 2008–2011 monitoring period.

Coastal water body of the Genoa–Camogli water body. Monitoring area extends 1.154 square kilometres. The water basin is the Fosso del Giurpe.

Location

Genoa, Liguria region, Italy, at the Capolungo locality. Contact: Municipality of Genoa (Palazzo Tursi, via Garibaldi 9, tel 010557111) and ASL 3 (via Bertani 4, tel 01064481).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). The Ligurian Sea does not experience cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past four years. No coastal treatment plants, pipelines, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area.

Risks

The primary identified pollution source is the river mouth (foce fluviale). No other specific short-term or anomalous pollution events are documented. No proliferation of potentially toxic algal species or macroalgae has been recorded.
