Zona Urbana Norte is an urban beach with intensive use and an extensive sand strip, ideal for practising sports. It integrates several beach fronts including Verde, Beijinhos, Lada II, Lada I, Lagoa II, and Hotel. The beach is located in Póvoa de Varzim municipality in the Ave River basin.

Water Quality

Water quality classification follows Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). No days of bathing prohibition or advisory occurred due to short-term pollution in the 2024 bathing season. Weekly sampling is conducted.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to contamination of the rainwater network. Fecal contamination may originate mainly from rainwater network contamination. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with a history of bloom occurrence. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no history of occurrence.
